Correction and Retraction

Jurnal Hurriah: Journal of Educational Evaluation and Research, we are deeply committed to upholding the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of the scholarly record. While rigorous peer review and editorial oversight minimize errors, mistakes or ethical issues can occasionally surface after publication.

To maintain transparency and trust in academic research, this policy outlines how we handle corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions. Every action is guided by international publishing standards (such as COPE guidelines) to ensure fairness, clarity, and respect for the academic community.

1. Our Guiding Principles

We believe that correcting the scholarly record should be handled constructively and transparently. Our approach is built on three core pillars:

Integrity First: Prioritizing the accuracy and reliability of published educational research above all else.
Proportionate Action: Applying remedies that match the severity of the error—from a minor typographical fix to a formal article retraction.
Permanent Linkage: Ensuring that any notice (correction, expression of concern, or retraction) is permanently linked to the original article so readers are never left uninformed.

2. Post-Publication Corrections (Corrigenda and Errata)

When an error is discovered in a published article, the appropriate response depends on who made the mistake and how significantly it impacts the study's conclusions.

Publisher Errors (Errata): If a production, layout, or typesetting error introduced by the journal affects the clarity or accuracy of the work, we will promptly publish an Errata notice and update the digital article.
Author Errors (Corrigenda): If authors discover unintentional errors (such as a mislabeled table column, an incorrect formula, or a missing funding acknowledgment) that do not alter the core findings of the paper, a Corrigenda notice will be published.
Handling Process: Corrections are published as formal, citable notices linked directly to the original paper. The original article will feature an editor's note pointing readers to the correction notice.

3. Expressions of Concern

In complex or ambiguous situations where serious allegations or ethical concerns are raised about a published paper—and an institutional investigation is ongoing but inconclusive—the journal may issue an Expression of Concern.

Purpose: This alerts readers that substantial questions surround the reliability or integrity of the work while a thorough investigation takes place.
Transparency: The notice clearly outlines the nature of the unresolved concern without making premature judgments against the authors.

4. Retractions

Retraction is a serious step reserved for cases where the reliability or ethical integrity of a published study has been fundamentally compromised. A paper may be retracted under circumstances including, but not limited to:

Clear evidence of data fabrication, falsification, or severe plagiarism.
Major methodological or analytical flaws that invalidate the primary conclusions.
Redundant or duplicate publication without proper cross-referencing or ethical justification.
Unresolved ethical breaches, such as severe violations of research consent or undisclosed major conflicts of interest.

How Retractions Work:

A formal Retraction Notice—stating the reasons for the retraction and who initiated it—is published in the current issue and permanently linked to the retracted article.
To preserve the historical scholarly record, the original article is not deleted. Instead, it is watermarked with a prominent "RETRACTED" status across all digital formats (PDF and HTML) to prevent citation of invalid data while maintaining academic transparency.

5. Removal or Suppression of Content

In extremely rare and exceptional circumstances—such as legal mandates, court orders, severe defamation risks, or severe breaches of participant confidentiality and safety—the journal may remove an article from public view.

When content must be suppressed, a placeholder notice will remain in its place, explaining clearly why the text has been removed to maintain public accountability.

If you spot an error, factual inaccuracy, or potential ethical breach in any published article in Jurnal Hurriah, we welcome your vigilance.
