About the Journal

The Journal of Social Law and Justice (JSOL) is a biannual, peer-reviewed open access academic journal committed to publishing theoretical and empirical research that advances understanding of the dynamic relationship between law, society, and justice. JSOL provides a multidisciplinary platform for legal scholars, practitioners, and researchers to explore emerging and contemporary issues in social law and justice from a global and comparative perspective, with a special focus on local and regional developments.All articles are subject to rigorous double-blind peer review to ensure the highest academic standards. 

Aims and Scope

JSLJ welcomes original research articles, case studies, policy analyses, reviews, and theoretical contributions in areas including, but not limited to:

  • Sociological Law and Legal Anthropology

  • Criminal Law and Justice Systems

  • Civil Law and Civil Procedure

  • Islamic Law and Jurisprudence

  • Customary and Indigenous Legal Systems

  • Legal Education and Access to Justice

We particularly encourage submissions that:

  • Offer interdisciplinary insights combining law with sociology, economics, political science, or religious studies.

  • Address contemporary issues such as digital justice, restorative justice, gender and law, indigenous rights, or legal responses to climate change.

  • Contribute to comparative legal studies or contextualize legal theory within Southeast Asian or Islamic legal traditions.

The journal has a strong emphasis on the following themes:

  • The sociology of law and legal institutions in social transformation

  • Legal reasoning methodologies and the development of legal systems

  • Islamic jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh, Qawa’id Fiqhiyyah) in modern contexts

  • Justice theories, rights-based approaches, and legal ethics

  • Cultural and customary law in plural legal frameworks

  • Development of legal cultures and the influence of globalization on legal norms

Editorial Process and Peer Review

JSLJ adopts a double-blind peer review process. Each submission is reviewed by at least two independent experts in the relevant field. The average time from submission to first decision is 4–6 weeks, and accepted articles are published online within 2 weeks of final acceptance.

The editorial team consists of established legal scholars with expertise in diverse subfields of law and social justice, ensuring high-quality assessment and broad intellectual coverage.

All articles in JSLJ are published under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), allowing authors to retain copyright while permitting free distribution and reuse with proper attribution.
